Change

change

the galaxy
ignored
vilified
denied

yet
sensed

Process

I started out with a basic reproduction of what I had photographed.

Then I added some greenery that wasn't there, along with some splatters.

Not satisfied because it still seemed too static, I started smearing things a bit.

I decided to quit, but may go back in with some background.

Projecting

The echinacea plants are barely an inch tall in my backyard, but that doesn't stop me from dreaming of future scenes like this.

Pinkness returns

Eye Opener

Cool, rainy weather descends
jackets out again
gloves even
while buds are ready to burst
extra time
to observe the richness
of their hues
and time
to remember to see

Sanctuary Sun

"Think of the many descriptions you put on yourself daily, con-
stantly, descriptions which are critical, which are favorable. You
call yourself perhaps as many as a thousand different things a day.
You’re a success, or you’re a failure, or you’re a frightened person,
or you’re an aspiring person going somewhere important, or you’re
someone who fakes a lot or you’re someone who’s perfectly sincere
in everything you do. Hundreds and thousands of labels over a
period of time, often very contradictory. And you don’t quite know
sometimes how to label yourself, whether you’re a good person or
a bad person or generous or selfish or whatever.

Now look at the people you live with and your friends and your
associates. You will see that you do the very same thing to them,
that you’re constantly describing them in many different ways and
again contradictory very often. Someone is likable one moment, the
next hour or so you have a difference with them and they’re not
very pleasant. So this whole business of going around calling our-
selves and other people names is a constant practice, the mind rolls
forward in it all day long.

Now I want you to know that is a purely human habit and a very
dreadful destructive wasteful habit, but it all connects with
human beings giving themselves and other people labels so that
they think they can understand them if they put a label on them.
But it is the very label that prevents understanding, it acts
as a wall toward you seeing and comprehending the other person’s
motive, what he’s like, and prevents him from seeing you and
understanding you. I said this was a purely human practice.

Now there is another source, another power outside of the human
mind that has nothing to do with this wasteful practice, that
never does it, has no connection with it. And this other source
you can call what you like, but we’ll call it Truth tonight
with a capital T - something which is not a part of the human
mind, therefore, not a part of the labeling process."

Orange is the new...

Rounding the bandshell this morning, I saw an orange sky and then saw a reprise of the color in the perennial garden in a flower I don't remember ever seeing before.  What a surprise!  Looks so tropical and un-Minnesotaesque.

Real Life

Krishnamurti: ``What is real life?'' A little boy has asked this question. Playing games, eating good food, running jumping pushing - that is real life for him. You see, we divide life into the real and the false. Real life is doing something which you love to do with your whole being so that there is no inner contradiction, no war between what you are doing and what you think you should do. Life is then a completely integrated process in which there is tremendous joy. But that can happen only when you are not psychologically depending on anybody, or on any society, when there is complete detachment inwardly, for only then is there a possibility of really loving what you do. If you are in a state of total revolution, it does not matter whether you garden, or become a prime minister, or do something else; you will love what you do, and out of that love there comes an extraordinary feeling of creativeness.

The Show is Beginning

The blossom show is building up having started with magnolias, progressing now to white apple trees and redbud trees, and soon to be rosy crabapples, truly the most beautiful week of the year in this spot!  The perennial garden was filled with tulips this morning.  This path points to the lake.

Since this is the last page of my journal, it seems a fitting time to stop doing these pages.  They were an opportunity to create without pressure and served me well for that.  I hope I have inspired others to try it.  Very relaxing.  Thank you for looking!

A Golden Pas de Deux

A Golden Pas de Deux

gold and silver
cameo earrings
were your choice today
A bargain
the shopkeeper said
misspriced
due to bad eyesight
But a win all the way around
You laid them out
in the slanting sunlight
to admire
caught up in their beauty
in the right now of it
no need to hope
no need to plan
two cameos dance
in the setting sun

Coneflower to Come

All the little coneflower shoots popping up are promising bee-loving blossoms like these coming soon!  Last year I planted quite a few from Sunnyside Gardens and Bachman's and this year I'm considering an entire round bed in the middle of the yard!  I planted some seeds in March and the tiny plants are growing on my bedroom window sill along with some zinnias.  They are very fragile.

Another set up of the past

I keep moving around the house to paint.  Here is a set up from a while back.  I enjoy how the landscape changes even in the set-ups.

Popping up and Popping out

I came across this photo from last year this morning.  As I see tender shoots appearing, I am delighted that these beauties might be in store for the garden again this year.

Paintings Are in Midwest Home

Six of my watercolor paintings can be seen currently at the bottom of this article in Midwest Home.  The article is about my daughter's garden which is pictured in this photo and is here in Linden Hills, just steps away from my foursquare.
